We pray for many people and situations each day and during our services. This is called intercessory prayer.
I have learned a lot about prayer from the brothers at The Society of Saint John the Evangelist. They remind us that God is not called to a person or to a place by us. Wherever there is suffering and need, God is already there calling to us to pay attention. The brothers say, “It is his Spirit who calls us to join him there by offering our love in intercessory prayer and action, to be used by God for healing and transformation.” If you want to learn more, this link will bring you to the brothers’ “Rule” about intercessory prayer: SSJE Intercession.
